Rumours are abound in the international media that Toro Rosso could be sold to an Arab consortium before the new season of racing kicks off, as Red Bull look to focus all their attention on the championship-winning Red Bull Racing outfit. The rumours could explain why Toro Rosso is yet to confirm its 2011 driver line-up to the FIA, despite announcing to the media that Alguersuari and Buemi will stay in the cockpits.
Rumours over the possible sale of Toro Roso were frequent throughout 2009, as the team prepared to become an independent constructor again in 2010. Between the takeover of Minardi by Red Bull in 2005 until 2009, Toro Rosso had used Red Bull Racing's chassis, even winning the 2008 Italian Grand Prix with future champion Sebastian Vettel at the wheel. A crackdown on customer cars meant Toro Rosso had to design, build and develop their own car from 2010 onwards.
Reports now say that the team is on the market for $30m (€22.5m) but comes with significant debts that the buyer will have to absorb.
Faenza-based Toro Rosso finished ninth in last year's constructors' championship with 13 points, the lowest ranked established team
