Before the races even starts, the numbers are being crunched ... If Red Bull manages to score more points than McLaren this weekend, the team wins their second consecutive Constructor's title. But this was qualifying, we were here to see the 24 cars race around the track.
One of the first images splayed on the television during Q1 is the sight of Jérôme d'Ambrosio staring intently ahead as a photographer makes his way around the car, snapping photos. It shows to the viewers exactly what Formula One and qualifying is all about.
Knowing that teams only get three sets of both soft and super soft tyres during a GP weekend, it was a surprise to nearly everyone seeing RBR's two driver's exit the pits in Q1 on the Supersoft. Always being able to make it though at least Q1 on the harder compounds, RBR did things a little differently.
As Q1 came to a close, Sutil and di Resta were able to prove to the teams new co-owners, Sahara India Pariwar, that they had made the right decision by out qualifying both Red Bulls.
As Q2 pushes on, it looked like the McLaren's were dominating Korea. Even the likes of Vettel and Alonso just couldn't keep up. And as time was counting down of Q2, the 'traffic gremlins' were back. There appeared to be a bit of a back up as many of the remaining 18 cars were back out on track.
With seconds to go, Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari out qualified Mercedes Michael Schumacher and kept him out of the top ten shootout. Eventually, Alguersuari lost his P10 to Sahara Force India's Paul di Resta.
As Q3 started and cars were actually leaving the pitlane. Recently fans have become accustom to not seeing cars exit the pit lane until the last few minutes of Q3. Here in Korea, things had played out differently. Eight out of ten cars posted times (compared to Japan's six out of ten). Some say, it brought back the feeling of adrenaline that always came along with qualifier.
