Formula North

The name Adrian Newey* might not come up in regular conversation often, but the name U of T may. What these two names have in common is the love of motorsport racing. From this love; commitment, passion and perseverance are born.

Formula One is sport world over, but here in Canada it is heavily outweighed by NASCAR. F1 is an open-seater race were cars are specifically designed aerodynamically for maximum speed and handling. F1 hosts not only a large draw of up-and-coming drivers but also engineering students. These students see men and women to the likes of Newey and think, 'I can do that'. Formula North was set up to encourage them to do just so.

Formula North was introduced as a Formula Student style competition (a student design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers) and encompasses all aspects of a business including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management, and fund raising. Formula North will take students out of the class room and puts them in the real world.

Formula North will be held at the Barrie Molson Center from Thursday May 24th to Sunday May 27th, 2012. For more information on the event, please log onto http://formulanorth.com/

*Adrian Newey is a notable Formula One engineer / aerodynamicist and widely regarded one of the great engineers in the sport's history. Newey-inspired designs have won eight F1 World Constructor's Titles, dominating much of the 1990s and late-2000s
