As qualifying starts at the Hungaroring, there are mixed emotions. The drivers and teams are excited at the fact that this is the last race before the summer break and the fans are upset that they will be missing their favourite sport from the television for over a month. The FOM have been watching the audience numbers out of fear that the 2012 London Olympics may be stealing their audience, but as this is the last race for a month, all of the true Formula One fans will not miss this for the world.
Five minutes left of Q1 and it seemed that the 'little brother' (Toro Rosso) was out to have their cars quicker than Red Bull. Jean-Éric Vergne of Toro Rosso was the first to set a quicker time than both Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. This all seems to have happened after engine map controversy at Red Bull.
The last minute of Q1 and nearly all the teams were back out on track with soft tyres. Then the times really started falling. Watching the difference in the times of the drivers, it's a full
Q2 and the teams were sending their drivers immediately out on track. With the Hungaroring said to be along the lines of Monaco and Montreal in tightness of corners and width of the track, it's thought that all the teams wanted was some clean air.
Big upset in Q2 as Red Bull's Mark Webber did not make it through and more so, both Mercedes were knocked out.
Halfway through the Top Ten Shootout and both Lotus', both McLaren's and the Red Bull were the only cars not only to set a qualifying time but also to make an appearance on track. Down to the last minute, literally, and the two Williams with the Force India's appeared on track. Just as the time counted down to zero, Ferrari finally made it to track.
After keeping and eye on the Red Bull's performance during qualifier, it's hard to tell if the whole 'engine map contoversy' affected the drivers. Yes, Mark Webber was knocked out in Q2 starting his race in P11 and his teammate, Sebastian Vettel will start his race in P3.
