To Those Who Lost Their Lives

Over the past week we have noted legendary drivers and their legacy on the sport.  Now I would like to take a day and pay tribute to the driver's that have lost their lives and given the sport we all love, some of the world's best safety standards to protect driver's from repeating history.

 Sunday Afternoon

On that Sunday afternoon,
a nightmare came true.

As we held our breath and listened,
we watched as the world stopped
and time stood still.

Underneath the sunshine of a Sunday afternoon
Sits a smoking cage
still hot to the touch.

The car was turned over in a fraction of a second,
sooner than any one even had time to think about.

On that day, we lost a idol,
a champion, a friend.

Our faith was questioned.
Some passed while others failed.

And yet n that day,
we gained heroes
from amongst the tragedy.

We have dried our tears,
Tragedies help us learn.
They help us to grow.

But we will never
forget that devastating day,
That Sunday afternoon.
