Sebastian Vettel wins the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix and nearly secures his second consecutive World Driver's Championship title. Holding back second place Jenson Button with a gap of only 1.737 seconds. Who made up the gap using back markers and set of new tyres. Mark Webber finishing third keeps the race for second place in the WDC well alive.
With a race known to take it's mark on the drivers, it wasn't long before the well lit track started taking the drivers. Lap 12 and upon exiting the pits, Lewis Hamilton, trying to make up lost grid spots from race start had attempted to pass Felipe Massa and in turn, hits the rear of the Ferrari clipping the McLaren's front wing and punctures the Ferrari's rear tyre. Giving Hamilton a drive through for 'causing a collision'.
But the yellow flags hadn't seen the end of the race yet. Lap 19 and HRT's Daniel Riccardo hit MVR's Timo Glock in turn one causing damage to the MVR and the second retirement of the race. On lap 30, the flags (and the safety car) were brought back out. Michael Schumacher, chasing Sergio Perez for eighth, touches the back of the Mexican's Sauber and is sent airborne and sliding nose first into the barriers. The yellow flags were finally put to their last use during the final few laps of the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix when Jamie Alguersuari skidded into the barriers and coming to a sudden stop.
Though his starts may be a little off, Mark Webber proved that he has nerves of steel. The best 'move of the day'... On lap 34 the safety car releases the race and Webber overtakes Fernando Alonso on turn 10. Using the back markers as a distraction and cause many fans to hide their eyes. High traffic and a close corner, Webber saw the opportunity and took it.
What could be called one of the biggest upsets (to some fans) would be the fact that Alonso was able to hold off on Vettel claiming his second consecutive driver's title. Willing the season to go on for most fans, Alonso kept the title from the German's hands by only 1 point...
