Coming in with the second quickest time of the day (1:22.250), Fernando Alonso was able to put in 115 laps in day eight in Barcelona. The team admitted on Friday that it is still struggling to get a full understanding of the car and then cancelled all driver interviews for the remainder of the weekend.
What caught most people by surprise at Sunday's test was Red Bull's absence for much of the afternoon session. Sebastian Vettel completed just 17 laps in the updated RB8 before a gearbox problem left him garage-bound. Vettel returned to the track with only a few minutes of the remaining but was only able to add another five laps to his tally. All while this was occurring, Vettel damaged the car's new front wing after jumping across a gravel trap early in the morning.
