2010 Season Review In Pictures. Part Six: Brazil And The Constructor's Title

Second to last race, four men in contention for driver's title and next stop on the calendar was Brazil. The Brazilian Grand Prix it's self is not all that exciting a race but the driver's ad teams this year took it to a whole new level.  It started with a four driver's sitting down for the regular Thursday press conference and anyone that was attending or even reading the would have had a good laugh. If you haven't read it yet, you can find it here. All quotes by martin Brundle and others.

Nassa : And also me and Lucas live in the same building. He never has food in his house, he’s always coming to my house to eat.
di Grassi : Hey, that’s… that’s true. Free lunch.

And of course, rain in the forecast.

“These intermediate tyres: you can barely get your fingernails into the tread, it’s such a shallow tread. They each lift about thirty litres of water up into the sky, trying to return it back to where it came from.”

Though the rain was no surprise, what shocked and a delightful surprise was that none of the four men in contention for the title grabbed pole position in Q3. first year rookie Nico Hulkenberg started the race in P1.

After the sky's had broken and everyone had a night sleep to digest the news of the rookie in P1, race day had come.  Gossip spread like wildfire through the paddock that Jenson Button had had some sort of run in the some of the 'locals'.  He arrived and told, it was not locals but armed gunmen.

The pits were cleared and the race was about to begin and not one single person knew how the race was to unfold.  Hulk out front with the four contenders right on his tail.  Everyone held their breath to see what would happen.

Until the pit stop, Red Bulls out in front with the Hulk not letting anyone else by. He had learnt from his mistakes.

By lap 30, Alonso knew that the race was over, he couldn't catch the Red Bulls,

"It's out of reach, we can't touch them."

That was all that Red Bull needed to hear, the team knew that they had won the constructor's title.

"I feel like I've been transported into a very loud aerobics DVD. Not taking part though, obviously. I don't look good in lycra."

"It is just an awesome team result and testimony to the team.

Today was a great performance controlled by the team. We had a few issues with Mark Webber and his engine which we got through.

This is for every one in Milton Keynes and in Red Bull, they have put in so many hours I can't describe.

To do this after six seasons is great." Red Bull had take the constructor's title after only six seasons on the circuit.

The party ensued and so did the carnage.... Typical playboy fashion....

  1. Erm, sorry to point it out, but 5 drivers were in with a chance in Brazil. Vettel, Webber, Alonso, Hamilton and Button.
