The red flag was seen more often on day three in Barcelona as the teams were starting to push their drivers into race simulations. The first red flag though, had nothing to do with a race simulation. During the morning session, the first red flag of the day was brought out by Paul di Resta losing his VJM05's engine cover.
The second red flag was brought out as Kamui Kobayashi who finished third quickest, ended his day just shy of the 100-lap mark. Kobayashi caused the second flag as his team ran the Sauber to empty just prior to the lunch break.
Having a prolonged spell in the pit in the morning due to a gearbox problem, Mark Webber (ending his day at sixth quickest on the time sheets) caused the third reg flag late in the day when he stopped at turn 8 with what appeared to be a mechanical problem (which turned out to be a false alarm).
"All in all, it wasn't a bad day at all," Webber said. "Not the smoothest of morning's and we didn't get too many laps done there, but in the afternoon the race simulation went OK. We're still learning plenty. It would have been nice to have done a few more laps, but I think everyone always wants to get 20 or 30 more and, even with the problem this morning, there were loads of positives to look at. We're a very ambitious team, so we'll keep working on that."
